Additions to Question 4
It is extremely important to know who your target audience is going to be even before you start to make your film. If you don't know who your target audience is then you won't know what to include in your film which would be appropriate. Instead you could include content that may only be viewed by and 18 year your target audience may be younger. If you know who your target audience is then you will know what content to include and what content you shouldn't include.
This clip is from Halloween (1978). In this clip we see the killer Michael Myers (the killer) murder Bob (the victim). The difference between this clip and the clip from Nightmare on Elm Street is the victims. In the Nightmare on Elm Street clip, the victim is a female whereas in this clip, the victim is male. However both victims are teenagers which is stereotypically the age of the victims in most slasher films if not all slasher films.
From what me and Richard have researched we have concluded that we want our target audience to be between 16 and 18 years old and are both male and female. We have come to this conclusion from looking back over our final film and seeing what content is allowed for certain audiences from bbfc and we think that the content we have included matches the requirements for this target audience to view our film.
Representation is where we try to show the original conventions and stereotypes of any given subject included in our film. For us our killer (Matt) wears a mask to hide his face so that we don't know who the killer is and he has long hair as well. Because our film is a slasher, having a killer who wears a mask, carries a knife and has long hair are conventions of a slasher film that must be included. Having long hair may not be a convention of a slasher film but it helps for the image of the killer.
Our victim who we see as a young teenage girl (Izzy) with her baby crying is a normal convention but also a stereotype for horror films by having a woman as a victim. Including these in our film we are representing troubled teenage mother's and woman victims in our film. Stereotypically we show a teenage mother with her baby crying which is what we mostly think is typical of a young teenage mother but in some cases it's not like that. And our killer wearing a mask in a slasher film is just a convention which always must be included for a slasher film which is what we've done for ours.
We analyze videos for representation because we can then talk about how well representations of conventions of the sub-genre and stereotypes are presented in the film/video. For example with our film as said before, our victim is a young teenage mother with her baby crying. This is a strong stereotype of what we think a young teenage mother would be like. We would think that they would be in disarray and alone not knowing what to do. And our killer wears a mask and carries a knife around is a typical convention of a slasher film.

We planned our film concidering different aspects and conventions of the typical slasher film, to try to engage our target audience. Our target audience (teenage male slasher fans) would like the fact that the killer is the same age range as them, so they might be able to relate to him and have a better understanding of how he feels and thinks. They will also enjoy the fact that this is a slasher film with the conventions of a knife and a mask as a lot of slasher films share these conventions. They would be looking to see someone being hunted down and killed, which is what a lot of slasher films are based around, and this is what our film is based on.
We targeted a particular age and gender by researching what kind of person enjoys slasher films by looking on the IMBd website at the user ratings section for the top slasher films. This helped us a lot as it helped us decide what kind of conventions to use.
We shot the film mostly inside of a caravan as the female character (the mother) is poor and therefore cannot afford to live in a house and look after her baby son. The props we used were a knife, clown toy and a clown mask. We chose for the killer to have a knife as it is probably the most accessible weapon for someone who has little or no money. We chose to have the mother play with a clown toy to entertain the son as it shows she doesn't have much money for toys for her son, and it would go well with the killer making a clown mask later on in the film. We decided that the killer would be wearing a clown mask as the mother used to play with a clown toy to entertain him, she left this toy with him when she abandoned him in the caravan, so when he grew up, this inspired him to create the clown mask as a disguise and kill his mother who left him to die. We think that the location and the props that we used will engage the target audience as it shows that the film is a slasher film, and they help us to understand the story a lot better. This conforms to conventions as the audience can clearly tell that the film is a slasher film, most slasher films have a weapon which is like a knife, too.
The casting of our threat and victim engage the audience as the threat, is a teenage male. During the research that Jake and I did, we found that teenage males are the people that mostly watch slasher films. This will engage the target audience as they will be able to relate to the killer, possibly being able to tell how he feels and thinks. The casting of the victim engages the target audience as it portrays the swiftly growing problem of teenage pregnancy. This is so that the film can relate to current affairs, this also makes the story more believable.
Our title sequence will engage our audience as it follows the typical conventions of slasher title sequences, it has the logo for the production company, when the names of the cast come to screen, it shows only the names, much like the slasher film 'A nightmare on Elm street'.
