Question 1

These are a few images related to my sub-genre which have influenced me to try and create images not exactly the same as these images but something almost alike so that I can compare an image from an existing film to ours. These images are pretty typical conventions of a slasher film. The logo of New Line Cinema is dark and mysterious which is what a killer in a slasher film is normally like. The title for Nightmare on Elm Street is dark and the actual title looks as if it's been painted on with blood which is what you expect for a slasher film, you expect to see a lot of blood which would equal to a lot of deaths.

Finally the rest of the images present the setting for the film which in the case of Friday 13th is in the woods which again is a typical convention of a slasher film setting. Also in these images we see the mysterious killer with a blade and a mask to hide his face which again is what we need to include in our film.

This is an image of the logo New Line Cinema from Nightmare on Elm Street. What I like about the logo is how when the logo is shown in the film, the logo fades in from the bright light background which makes the logo stand out.

This is an image of the Nightmare on Elm Street titles. I think that the way that the title looks like it's been painted on with blood or as if there is a pool of blood, from the color tone used for the title, on the black background which makes the title really stand out.

This is the image of the killer Jason Vorhees from Friday 13th. What immediately lets you know that the film is going to be a slasher film is how Jason is wearing a hockey mask to hide his face (which all traditional slasher film killers do) and he's carrying a huge blade in his right hand. What I also like about the image of Jason is how he stands out from the wooded background with his mask, blade and the raggedy clothes he's wearing.

This is another image from the film Friday 13th. What's good about this image to make it look like it's going to be a good horror film (slasher) is how the woman is looking into the distance at a random figure who's just standing there, watching her. For this kind of image used you would suspect that there would be some creepy music included during this scene to give the audience the sense that the woman character is being stalked.









This is an image from the film V for Vendetta. This image is a great use of mise en scene. The color/lighting is rather dark which also sets the tone for how the woman character is feeling. We also see what each character in the scene is wearing which also tells us something about each character. The character in the background is wearing black, dark clothing along with a mask to cover his face which lets us and the audience know that he's the killer. The woman is wearing just a normal, casual and rather dirty shirt which lets us and the audience know that she's just a character who's got tangled up in something that she never wanted to be part of. The background lets us know that both characters seem to be in a large room which may be part of the home of the killer.

This is the first of the 4 key images and in this image we see the killer find a new mask after his original one was ripped off by one of his victims before he killed that victim.

This is our first key image which introduces the mother character of our film for the first time playing with her baby with a clown toy.

This is another key image which shows the killer appear right behind his next victim. This is a key image because it lets us and the audience know that from this image, we know that this teenage girl is about to die.

This is where we first meet our killer making his mask.

This is the third key image that I selected from Friday 13th. What makes this a key image from the film in my opinion is how we see the killer in the distance and both characters in the image are looking at each-other. However the killer looks as if he's watching her instead of just looking.

In this image we see the mother leaving her baby and this is the reason why our killer wants revenge.

This is the final key image that I selected. In this image we see the killer wearing his old mask before he finds his new one in this workshop we see him in now. What makes this a good image is how the light is coming through the windows which creates a kind of dark shadow effect on the killer making him look dark and mysterious.
